Objective

The whole feeling I want my work to give is a feeling of tranquility and serenity, my aim is that the viewers should go through a different experience when they enter my space from the outside world of pollution and haste. I want to create a feeling of entering into a new horizon, which is detached, and at the same time connected to the world.

Rationale

I am interested in the philosophy of life: the changes, the ups and downs in life. In this work my interest moved towards the purity of things, such as in spirituality, peace, healing, the notion of beauty, serenity. I have chosen white because not only does it portray purity but it also symbolizes happiness and morning, fairies and the clouds. In general, I am fascinated with the symbols this color portrays. It can be the color of death in few cultures and marriage in another. Peace for some and coldness for the rest.  That is where I decided to make my whole installation in white.

I made flowers out of tissue because flower indicates femininity and softness. The blanket represents softness, comfort and protection and the flowers on it are of feminine quality, which represent motherhood and love.

As we all are aware, that these notions beauty and serenity are not permanent. Everything in life is subjected to changes. Nothing remains pure forever. I chose tissue because it is versatile as it changes shape and color and tears over a period of time because it is fragile. Because tissue is made out of natural material, like cotton, it looks soft and comfortable. I feel beauty lies in nature and I wanted to use material that goes back to the feeling of being close to nature.

The Banyan tree represents spirituality in Indian culture, all saints use to gain nirvana under the tree. A tree by itself represents growth and protection - a growth towards peace and spirituality. I have covered the branches of the tree with carnations because they symbolize sweetness, pure love, innocence, and woman’s good luck gift. When many put together they give a feeling of layering and a puzzle, which exemplify the nature of life.
